Charles
Darwin University
Charles Darwin University (CDU) is a young multi-sector institution,
defined by creativity, flexibility and freedom from tradition. Its
hub is in multi-cultural, tropical Darwin, a relatively small city
steeped in Aboriginal culture. Campus life is collegiate and
friendly providing an ideal environment for study.
Tourism and Hospitality studies
Tourism is a key industry in the Northern Territory, where the
heartland of indigenous culture blends with world-famous natural
wonders and untouched wilderness.
CDU has fostered a mutually beneficial relationship with local
tourism business that allows students to gain work placements at all
levels. In return, the university supports the industry by feeding
skilled and talented graduates into the workforce.
CDU specialises in providing course flexibility. Pathways between
educational sectors allow students to progress according to their
interests and talents, from vocational training to degree level
studies, to advanced research doctorates.
This seamless course integration has attracted many international
students who access the pathway at Certificate III level and
progress through Diploma to degree qualifications within just four
years.
Undergraduate students can select a variety of units from the
Business program, and advanced standing is offered to those with
existing Tourism, Hospitality and Business qualifications.
Academic Excellence
Academics at Charles Darwin University take pride in equipping
future practitioners with both academic rigour and practical skills.
Their industry relationships and expertise are integral to nurturing
work-ready competencies that lead to high levels of student success
in small business and the employment market.
Research and Industry Programs
Research is an important focus for CDU and its industry partners.
Tourism and Hospitality projects are generously funded by the
Northern Territory Government and its agencies, local tourism
operators and privately sponsored research organisations.
The school is also member of three different Cooperative Research
Centres. This active support and involvement has led to extensive
publishing of research studies in industry journals chapters and
refereed conference papers.
Research areas of particular strength include:
